Principles · Ethical & Islamic marketing

Marketing that lands without breaking the branch.

We believe the success of a business is ultimately tied to how fairly it trades. So we went back to first principles, took every common practice in modern marketing and asked whether it holds up. Some did. Some needed reworking. Some we dropped entirely.

Where it comes from

Rooted in Islamic ethics. Open to everyone.

The Islamic tradition has a great deal to say about honest trade, and it shaped how we run Iota Hive. You don’t need to share our faith to work with us. You only need to want growth you can stand behind.

The bee is a fitting guide. It is honoured with a chapter of its own in the Qur’an, An-Nahl, and the Prophet ﷺ held it up as the example of a believer: it takes only what is good, gives back what is good, and does no damage where it lands. That is our standard for marketing.

إن مثل المؤمن لكمثل النحلة، أكلت طيبًا، ووضعت طيبًا، ووقعت فلم تكسر ولم تفسد

“The example of a believer is that of a bee: it takes in what is wholesome, gives out what is wholesome, and when it lands on something, it neither breaks it nor spoils it.”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ · Musnad Ahmad 6872

Five principles

What we hold ourselves to.

Each principle comes with practical commitments, so they can be checked rather than just admired.

صدقSidq · Truthfulness

Claims we can prove

Every claim in every ad, page and pitch should survive a customer checking it. Honest selling is not a constraint on good marketing; it is good marketing.

  • No fabricated reviews, testimonials or follower counts
  • No before-and-afters that didn’t happen
  • Case-study numbers always attributed to a named client
أمانةAmanah · Trust

Your budget and your customers’ data are a trust

We hold your money, your brand and your customers’ information on your behalf. We treat all three as if we’ll be asked to account for them, because we will.

  • Consent-first tracking and clear privacy notices
  • We never sell or rent personal data
  • Transparent media spend: you see what we see
عدلAdl · Fairness

Fair to you, fair to your customers

Fair dealing runs in both directions: clear terms with clients, and respectful persuasion with the people we market to.

  • No manufactured urgency, fake countdowns or false scarcity
  • No bait pricing or hidden conditions
  • Clear scopes and quotes in writing before work begins
إحسانIhsan · Excellence

Doing it beautifully, even when no one is checking

Ihsan is excellence as a form of devotion. For us it means senior attention, handmade where it matters, and craft in the details nobody would notice if we skipped them.

  • Small client roster, so every account gets real attention
  • Accessibility built in: legible, usable, inclusive
  • We finish the work, not just the deliverable
شورىShura · Consultation

Decisions made together, with a human in the loop

Consultation is how good decisions get made. With you, through weekly conversations. Within our systems, by never letting automation decide alone.

  • A person approves every customer-facing automation
  • AI output is reviewed, edited and owned by a human
  • You’re consulted before strategy changes, not after

What we avoid

Four old words for four modern habits.

Classical Islamic commercial ethics named these problems centuries ago. They map uncomfortably well onto today’s growth tactics.

غررGharar · Excessive uncertainty

Vague scopes, unclear deliverables and contracts that leave one side guessing.

تدليسTadlis · Concealing defects

Hiding what didn’t work. Our reports show the misses alongside the wins.

نجشNajash · Artificial demand

Fake scarcity, bought followers, bots and engagement pods that fake popularity.

غشGhish · Deception

Dark patterns, misleading creative and anything designed to trick rather than inform.

The fair practice review

Six questions every campaign answers before it ships.

Principles only matter if they change decisions. This review sits inside our process, at the point where a human signs off.

  1. Is every claim true, and could we prove it if asked?
  2. Would the customer feel respected if they saw exactly how they were targeted?
  3. Is any urgency or scarcity real?
  4. Has a person reviewed, edited and owned everything AI produced?
  5. Was every piece of personal data collected with clear consent?
  6. Does this promote anything that causes harm?

Work we decline

Some briefs aren’t for us.

Turning down work is part of trading fairly. We don’t market:

  • Gambling, betting and speculative get-rich-quick schemes
  • Alcohol, intoxicants and adult content
  • Predatory, interest-heavy lending
  • Products whose claims we can’t verify, such as unproven health cures

التاجر الصدوق الأمين مع النبيين والصديقين والشهداء

“The truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs.”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ · Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 1209
